breast is best
"it's like getting a titty twister",
i said, three weeks ago,
biting my lip hard as our
boy shortie latched on for his
9:00 feeding.
my husband looked up from his
harry-potter-trance.
"don't you remember when you were
a kid and someone would run up to you
and scream 'titty twister!!!' as they grabbed
your nipple and twisted with all of their might?"
he grimaced, held his chest, and said, "yeah", not
knowing where i was going with this.
"well...breastfeeding is like that.
it is like you are lifting your shirt,
thrusting your bare chest out,
while you bracingly say,
'go 'head...do it...,'
eight to twelve times a day".
silence.
note:
ever since the breast-saver-goddess
came to my house
from the la leche league
things have been MUCH better.
(see previous post)
my lip has healed
and my cursing has ceased.
until
he gets teeth.

Oh...I am so feeling your pain this very moment...I always thought nursing was so natural & instinctive that we would have no problems...boy was I wrong. We've been in a great pattern for 2 weeks now & all of a sudden, as you described, the most horrible "titty twisting" pain...but as you say...breast is best! My lactation lady suggested PureLan lanolin...it's helping a little...
ReplyDeleteI've been oohing and ahhing over your recent photos, but finally had to comment since you mentioned Le Leche League. My mother is one of the biggest breast-feeding proponents there is, and since I was a little girl, I recall her singing Le Leche League's praises. I mean, when I was in college, she would clip articles out of the local paper about Le Leche and send them to me (at the time, breast feeding wasn't high on my list of interests). Anyway, I hope that it gets better day by day and I'm glad to hear that you got some relief. Keep posting the gorgeous baby photos!
ReplyDeleteOMG

No worries, once you and liam get the latch down it won't feel like a "titty twister" :)
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I'm still nursing (3 years later) and I barely even notice that a 36 lb. child with a full set of teeth is hanging off one of my breasts!
All three of you look very happy together.
great post :)

ReplyDeletei'm so glad that it's not hurting any more! yay for le leche!
ReplyDeleteyeah, except titty twisters never left me cracked and bleeding! been there, mama. rock on.
ReplyDeletei just weaned my baby at two years old. nursing was the most beautiful, amazing, transcendent experience of my life.
